Letters to our children | November 2014

It’s another installment of what will hopefully be many monthly letters written to my son, August. It’s a part of a blog circle of incredible women photographers all striving to capture these glimpses into the everyday and the not so ordinary moments that pass by so quickly as our children grow. Be sure to make your way around the circle – it’s a quick one this month, but there are gorgeous images to see and remarkable words to be read. Hop on over to Tamryn’s blog next!

Dearest little one,

I guess there must have been a point at which I blinked. I blinked and all of a sudden you are working on crawling (not there quite yet, but man is it coming), you are eating food, you are developing into such an individual – it’s really incredible. Just this past weekend you must have been hitting some kind of developmental milestone… or there are teeth imminent. Something. All of a sudden, like a light switch, you decided that sleeping was for suckers and that you’d rather just be tired and cranky all day. It seems to have subsided a little bit now, but there’s definitely something brewing in there. Maybe that crawling will be happening sooner than we think! Or teeth. It’s funny – just when I think we’ve got something down, have settled into some kind of a routine, something gets thrown for a loop and I’m left reeling, wondering how he heck this whole parenting thing works.

I find myself saying to your dad, “Remember when we brought him home…” Tiny little moments of memory that keep popping up that I don’t want to forget. Little moments that already seem so far away.

haircut 1-1You got your first haircut at dad’s barber shop this past month. We had trimmed your bangs prior to now, but it was so much in your eyes and so full of mulletty goodness… And you were mistaken for a girl a couple of times too many for me… so we got you in for your first real cut. You sat like a rockstar, and now you look so much like a little boy with your new do! Joe the barber even put your cut on his facebook page!

haircut 2-1You are learning new tricks and games every day. Just yesterday, you grabbed a blanket, pulled it over your face and initiated a round of peek-a-boo with me. I was surprised and completely thrilled. You just giggled and giggled. It’s fascinating to watch you start to learn and develop a personality that is truly all your own. We’re looking forward to having you at your first Thanksgiving – you’ve liked a lot of those foods already! And then it’s just a short jaunt to Christmas, and that, my dear, is going to blow your mind. I can’t wait to experience that time of the year through your eyes.

Love always and always,

Mama
