Letters to our child | July & August 2015

It’s another installment of what will hopefully be many monthly letters written to my son. It’s a part of an attempt to capture these glimpses into the everyday and the not so ordinary moments that pass by so quickly as children grow. We were in the middle of our big summer expedition last month, so I’m combining July and August for this go-round.

Dear smart, curious and energetic boy –

The last two months have held all sorts of new things for both you and us. Our trip to Colorado and Utah gave us your first plane rides, desert and mountain hiking, sleeping in all sorts of new and different places, and mini-golf (why on earth did we keep sending the balls away and away?!). You had your first overnight away from us with Grandma and Grandpa Behm while we were at a wedding in Wisconsin. You even had your very first trip in a canoe into the Boundary Waters. You’ve been walking for a while now, but you’ve started climb onto rocks, stumps, chairs, couches, all sorts of things. So far you haven’t attempted escape from your crib, but I’m sure that’s coming soon.

Your curiosity and happiness about almost all you encounter is so much fun to be around. You’ve gotten two molars and are working on a few more teeth – it makes you a bit more irritable when you’re tired, but we’re learning to deal with it rather than reacting to it. So much learning for all of us!

Love always and always,

Mama
