It’s another installment of what will hopefully be many monthly letters written to my son. It’s a part of a memory-keeping attempt to capture these glimpses into the everyday and the not so ordinary moments that pass by so quickly as children grow. This is an ongoing series.
Dear smart, sweet boy,
This month we moved into our new house. Through it all – the packing, the loading away of your things, living for a bit at Grandma and Grandpa’s, being dropped back into a new place, surrounded by boxes, unable to find all sorts of your things – through it all, you’ve been incredible, hardly even a change in your sleep patterns (typing this, of course, jinxes it).
Just this week you’ve been paying special attention to words with hard consonants at the end of them. You repeat “fnack-ck-ck” (snack) and “milk-k-k-k” testing out how they feel in your mouth. Watching the process of you acquiring language is completely fascinating to me. This episode of On Being aired again recently and seeing your brain as it fires and makes these connections is nothing short of magic. Thank you for that. This stressful time of moving and setting up our new house has been made so much less stressful because the wonder you carry with you helps me to see these things with excitement rather than dread.
Love always and always,
Mama
