It’s another installment of what will hopefully be many monthly letters written to my son, August. It’s a part of a blog circle of incredible women photographers all striving to capture these glimpses into the everyday and the not so ordinary moments that pass by so quickly as our children grow. Be sure to make your way around the circle – there are gorgeous images to see and remarkable words to be read. Jaime’s beautiful letter and photos are up next!
Dear, sweet boy –
I’m writing this as we travel across the middle of the country, you napping in the car seat you are quickly outgrowing. We are heading home from your first trip to Nebraska to visit our good friends. We are so lucky to be able to visit them, to spend time with them on their farm and to see at least a little glimpse of their lives. You’ve done amazingly on this trip – we are so proud of you!
You started eating solid food this month and you’ve liked most things! Every now and then something makes you completely screw up your face, and being such a caring and good mom, that’s when I call your dad over and give you another bite. Ha! Most of the time it’s just a reaction to something new, not so much a dislike. It’s fun to see you growing and developing so much, but it all is happening so quickly. They say that it goes fast and you say, “yeah, yeah…” but it’s so true. It seems just yesterday we were getting ready to go to the hospital and now you’re having beef and sweet potatoes for dinner. Unbelievable.
I think you’re going to start crawling soon. You’ve got the front ready and the back ready, it’s just a matter of coordinating the two. You’re so smart, “very advanced,” as your dad and I like to joke, that I think you’ll have it down in no time. Then we are in for it! Lots of baby proofing yet to do in our 100+ year old house!
Darling, wonderful, sweet and snuggly boy, you bring such incredible joy to your dad and me. It’s an honor to be showing you into this great big world.
Love always and always,
Mama
