Letters to our child | April 2015

It’s another installment of what will hopefully be many monthly letters written to my son. It’s a part of an attempt to capture these glimpses into the everyday and the not so ordinary moments that pass by so quickly as children grow.

To my sweet son,

You’ve now been with us for just over a year, and we couldn’t be happier. We celebrated your birthday with your aunties and uncles, grandmas and grandpas, and your great auntie and great uncle the day before Easter. You were showered with all sorts of gifts and love, you showed off all of your tricks, and then came the cake that your sweet auntie Courtney made for you. Your dad likes to say that he is so proud of you for maintaining your dignity with it.

Two more teeth have popped through bringing your current total up to 7. I think you’ve got at least one more brewing judging on how often you’ve been waking at night and your not-so-happy demeanor during said nighttime wakings.

I think you’ll be walking by the time I’m writing this letter next month. You’re so on the verge. You go along with someone holding just one hand, and you’re not leaning very heavily on that one. The walking clock is ticking! You have mastered going up stairs. So far it’s only something you’ve gone for when trying to find me when I’ve gone upstairs and not just for the heck of it.

You’re starting to put sequences of events together. You like to hold my house keys when we are in the car or go on walks, and as we return, and get toward the doors, you excitedly hand me the keys telling me “Dees! Dees!” (Everything right now is some variation of “Dah!”)

You learn so much so quickly. It’s fascinating and makes both your dad and I so so proud to be your mama and daddy. I hope that you will never ever stop exploring.

Love always and always,

Mama
