Letters to our children | July 2017

It’s another installment of what will hopefully be many monthly letters written to our children. It’s a part of a memory-keeping attempt to capture these glimpses into the everyday and the not so ordinary moments that pass by so quickly as children grow. This is an ongoing series.

My sweet son –

This morning you really wanted to play a game on my phone. Really wanted to. We had a number of things to do before you were going to be able to, and you quickly jumped in to the tasks. You ran downstairs to get a diaper and some clothes for your sister, helped me “fold” a little bit of laundry, played some peek-a-boo to keep her entertained while I finished a couple of things, and you were finally rewarded with a little game time. Is it motivated by getting what you want in the end? Absolutely. Does that make it any less sweet that you tell me just why you chose the onesie and diaper that you did for your sister? Absolutely not.

So, so much,
Mama

Smiling, shining girl –

You were so interested and so we started you with a bit of solid food just in the last week or so. As with your brother, we started out with some rice cereal, and have also added applesauce, peas, Cheerios and puffs. This evening, though, this evening was a winner. Bananas. Hoo-boy, your mouth snapped open when I’d start to bring the spoon in close, your little hand clumsily grabbing onto the handle and shoving the whole business into your mouth, smashed up bananas smearing up into your nose. Bananas, I’m telling you. Although, the second time I tried to give you peas, you were definitely less than thrilled. My hopes are high for these, but I’m not holding my breath – ha!

So, so much,
Mama
