Letters to our children | February 2018

It’s another installment of what will hopefully be many monthly letters written to our children. It’s a part of a memory-keeping attempt to capture these glimpses into the everyday and the not so ordinary moments that pass by so quickly as children grow. This is an ongoing series.

Sweet, clever one –

Three is bending much closer to four these days. It’s like we’re starting to come out of the crazy emotional uncontrollable nature of three and heading toward something a bit more calm. You’ve been so upbeat, so clever, so kind and patient and loving.

We went to the zoo today to go to the annual Giant Sandbox. I’m always kind of prepped for big explosions when you can’t use the toys that you want, when your sister gets in the way of what you want to be doing, and especially when it’s time to leave.

But today there was none of that. You happily played with the things we had brought, politely asked others if you could use their diggers, and listened so well when it was time to move on. When we got home and were rehashing our trip, I asked you what your favorite thing was. “When that boy and I shared our trucks and we made a volcano together.” Of course it was.

I love you so, so much,
Mama

My little bouncing one year old –

How did that happen? I realize it’s terribly cliche, but it truly has gone by so quickly. You are very much by and large a super happy kid, quick to smile and laugh, and constantly pushing and testing your limits. You make these crazy excited lizard noises when something is particularly good. You get into absolutely everything absolutely all of the time – and if your brother is into it, all the better. The two of you feed off of each other, and it’s thrilling, joyful and fascinating. You’ve taken three steps, sweet one, and they were chasing after your brother.

We celebrated your birthday this month, and as we expected, you took to your cake with a good amount of gusto and all of your family sat around you, watching your every frosting-grab.

I love you so, so much,
Mama
