Letters to our children | April 2018

It’s another installment of what will hopefully be many monthly letters written to our children. It’s a part of a memory-keeping attempt to capture these glimpses into the everyday and the not so ordinary moments that pass by so quickly as children grow. This is an ongoing series.

Amazing boy –

So much for you this month! At the beginning of April you turned four years old. You were aware of your birthday last year, but it was nothing like this year. We counted down so many months, weeks and days until finally, finally, it was here! On the actual day, we celebrated in the morning, just our little family, spent a fairly typical day including a visit with Bobo, and then had three of your four grandparents over, kind of spur of the moment, for some spaghetti pie and brownies. A pretty great day, all in all.

We had our first visit to the Science Museum of Minnesota, and you are at the perfect, magical age where everything is interesting and approachable. You don’t quite understand everything, but you’re interested. Your attention was so split between all of the amazing choices – dinosaurs, light, bodies, legos, tug boats… Amazing.

After one last major blizzard, the last week or so have been amazing outside. We’ve been all but rolling in it and it’s been incredible. Somehow it seemed like spring took so long to get here, that we were stuck inside for so very long. But now, now it’s just going to be bathnight every night.

So, so much,
Mama

Dear smiling, sunshiney girl –

Your world is so big now, and there’s so much to explore. And then there are moments when you’re standing in the garage and can’t for the life of you figure out how to cross the threshold onto the driveway. You’re quick with a smile, tipping your head just so to win the heart of just about every single check-out clerk we meet. You and your brother get along most of the time. You are starting to get into his things, though, and that tests just about every ounce of patience he has. We all lose it, occasionally, but mostly it’s a whole lot of love and sharing. It’s pretty incredible. Watching you tear up and down the driveway and around the yard in your adorable little sneakers, sunshine totally surrounding you is about the best thing, my sweet.

So, so much,
Mama
