Letters to our child | November 2015

It’s another installment of what will hopefully be many monthly letters written to my son. It’s a part of a memory-keeping attempt to capture these glimpses into the everyday and the not so ordinary moments that pass by so quickly as children grow. This is an ongoing series.

Dear clever, clever boy,

I can’t believe it’s already November, and toward the end of it as well! We have been having battles lately about wearing hats and mittens. You don’t want to, and it’s just not an option any more. Thirty-four degrees out right now – you need to wear your mittens. At the same time, you’ve also been showing some really incredible maturity. Just you and I went on a road trip to visit our friends in south central Nebraska and you were a total rockstar on the trip. Seriously. Absolutely stellar. I hardly even had to dig into the iPad full of Daniel Tiger and Elmo’s World.

You are an impressive little guy in so many ways. Every now and then you give me this look, we lock eyes and you start to start to stare a little crazy-like and we both break down into giggles. It’s the best. I feel so lucky to be able to spend my days with you. Are there tough days when I’m really really glad to be able to finally sit in the bathroom by myself for a few minutes? Abso-freaking-lutely. It’s still the best decision we’ve made in a long time.

Love always and always,

Mama
