Letters to our child | January 2017

It’s another installment of what will hopefully be many monthly letters written to my son. It’s a part of a memory-keeping attempt to capture these glimpses into the everyday and the not so ordinary moments that pass by so quickly as children grow. This is an ongoing series.

Dear sweet little guy,

You’re becoming such a little guy. You love to help with small tasks both around the house and when we’re out. You are starting to be able to spend much longer at a single task – we were at the library earlier this week and we spent a solid 15-20 minutes building with tiles, something you wouldn’t have had the patience for even a few months ago.

You still have a toddler’s run, though it’s starting to smooth out, becoming more of a kid’s run. And this year, you’ve found the joy in flopping down and falling into the snow. Now, we just need to get some more nice days when the snow’s good enough to play in.

This is the last of these little notes I’ll write to you as my only child, from me as just your mama. The two of us spend a lot of time together and that’s going to change so dramatically in just the next couple of weeks. I’m so excited to be welcoming a new little one into our family, but I have to admit, I’m nervous and a little sad that this really amazing time in both of our lives is coming to an end. I know you’re going to be such a great big brother. It may take some time, but I’m so looking forward to the relationship that you and this new little person will have. My relationships with my sister and brother are something that I cherish so deeply and I’m thrilled to be able to see how this all develops for the two of you. Always know that you made me a mama, and I am so proud to be that for you.

I love you. So, so much.
Mama
